Pick up your sketch book and head for the hills, literally. Join the renowned garden designer and artist Alistair Baldwin on this magical journey of landscape sketching in the beautiful village of Ramsgill-in-Nidderdale.
Alistair has travelled the world teaching drawing, using his unique methods for nurturing the connection between hand, eye and brain. His philosophy is grounded in the importance of learning how to look, and learning how to see what you’re looking at. Simple as this may sound, once translated to the hand that holds the pencil the drawings will flow!
Building your confidence through fun and fascinating exercises, Alistair starts with the basics of simple mark-making, quality of line and exploring media. His technique has been honed over the years, nurturing complete beginners into satisfied artists through his gently paced and encouraging classes. You will learn a host of tricks and techniques while being encouraged to nurture your own style.
Numbers for this exclusive course are limited. For further information on our inspiring courses please contact our events team by email: email@example.com
You will spend time in the classroom learning the building blocks of landscape sketching and experimenting with a broad range of graphite, colour and ink media. Each day will also include plenty of time in the stunning landscape immediately around the school where Alistair will guide each guest through observational and drawing exercises.
During this hugely enjoyable and immersive course you will learn how to capture skies, rolling hills, trees, woods, water, buildings and master the basic principles of perspective.
Your time with us will be spent both inside and outside with your learning taking place in the inn, out in the garden and in the surrounding stunning countryside. You will be joining us on a full board basis staying in one of the gorgeous suites here at The Yorke Arms. The bar will be open throughout your stay and depending on the season the fires will be lit and drinks will be served in the garden.
At the end of your week of sketching with us you will leave not only with a stunning portfolio of landscape sketches that have captured the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales and a sketch book you will be proud of, but a deeper understanding of the art of drawing and a love for sketching that will stay with you forever.
All tools and equipment are provided, and you don’t leave us empty handed. As well as the experience and knowledge, we will give you an A3 sketch book, made in Yorkshire and a set of Blackwing pencils to ensure you continue to sketch once you get home.
